Software Development Grants

Do you want to improve the operational efficiency of your business or organisation?

You could secure up to NZ$10,000 worth of free software design and development services for your business or organisation, from one of Marlborough’s most experienced software development companies, simply by applying now.

If you have the need, or an idea for a software solution for your business that would be applicable and useful for others in your industry (or even other industries), then Golden Micro invites you to apply for one of our Software Development Grants.

At this time we do not have a funding round active. However if you really think that the need and/or idea you have is a strong candidate then we're happy for you to send us an application anyway. At the end of the day you have nothing to lose -- if we do think your ideas are good then we may be able to fast-track a grant for you. Email us the details at the address below.

How Do You Apply:  Simply email us as much detail as you can about your idea and/or software requirements, and why you think it will benefit your company and others.

Send your email application to:    softwaregrant@golden.co.nz

Feel free to email us at the address above if you have any questions about what's required, or about the process, before you send us your application.

What Sort Of Information Do We Require:  We need you to tell us about your business and your industry, and about your requirements or ideas for software in as much detail as possible. We'll keep all of the information you provide strictly confidential.

How long have you been in business? How big/small is your business compared to others in the industry? How is your business different from others in your industry? How is your business similar to others in your industry? What software are you currently using to solve your business problems, or to organise your work? Why do you feel the need for a new system? What does the new software system need to do that you can't find in other solutions? How will this new system improve your business? How will this new system help others in the same industry as yours?

In short, we need you to give us as much information as possible so that we can judge whether we think the proposed systems warrant significant funding or not.

What Happens Next:  We’ll take an initial look at your application, and may request more information from you at that stage. Within a couple of weeks of the closing date we'll decide which projects (if any) will go forward to the next stage of the process. If you get to that second stage we'll meet with you to discuss your issues and requirements face to face to ensure we have a good grasp of your situation, and the problems you're wanting to solve. Applicants who demonstrate that there is a need for a new solution in the market, and that it's a viable proposition for a new software system to be developed will then be offered a grant from Golden Micro to design and develop all or part of the new system.

Depending on the viability of a given project, and its scope, this grant could be valued at anything from $1000 to $10,000. We do not necessarily limit our support to a single project or a maximum total grant value -- each application will be judged on its own merits.

Why Do We Offer These Grants:  Golden Micro Solutions Ltd has spent the last 25 years successfully developing bespoke and vertical market software solutions for clients all around New Zealand. We’re now looking for opportunities to develop new software systems that we can bring to the market place for businesses or industries who may not have any existing (or suitable) software solutions. We’re experienced software developers, but in order to develop new systems that actually work and meet the needs of the industry they’re designed for, we need collaborators who know their industry, and who know the (software) needs of businesses within that industry.

If you can tell us your needs and requirements, and supply the requisite industry knowledge, then we’re prepared to offer you a grant to fully or partially develop a new system that you can use to improve your business, and your bottom line. We then expect to be able to work with you to refine the system so that we can take it to the market place and to recoup the initial investment by selling additional copies of the software.

What Software Can Be Developed:  Golden Micro specialises in the development of business management systems (in general). We’re unlikely to provide grants for the development of games, educational software, or general purpose software such as word processing, spreadsheets, graphics applications and so on.

Our existing systems are capable of handling many tens of gigabytes of business and organisational data. We can provide automated email systems, barcode reading and generation, web browser front ends that your customers or clients can access, and many other specialist functions. We can also develop smart phone apps that interface and interact with our management systems. Click the 'Software' link in the menu at the top of the page for a list of some of our previous developments.

What Happens If You're Unsuccesful:  If we determine that the new system you require is not suitable for on-going development and marketing for use in businesses other than your own, then we won't be able to offer you a grant for free design and development time.

However, if you've put the time and effort into thinking about what your requirements are, and what you would like a new system to do, then we will be more than happy to provide you with a quote for the design and development of that system. At that point you will at least have a good idea of the potential costs you may be looking at to improve your business systems.

Now, get to it, and send us your application!
